Choc-Alot is home to Tucson's largest sugar-free chocolate selection. We have over 20 chocolates in dark, milk, and white, fudge, and 10 flavors of cocoa. In today's world, diabetics are not the only ones eating sugar-free. Many are choosing to cut down on refined sugars and others are on low carbohydrate diets. Whatever the reason, Choc-Alot is here for you.

The sweetener used primarily in our sugar-free chocolate is maltitol. Maltitol is made by the hydrogenation of maltose obtained from starch. Maltitol is a sugar-alcohol absorbed slower than regular sugar into the blood stream. The slower absorption allows the body to process the sweetener without the sugar spike dangerous to diabetics. Maltitol is a reduced-calorie sweetener with only 2.1 calories per gram. Sucrose contains 4 calories per gram. Maltitol does not promote tooth decay. As with other sugar alcohols, maltitol may produce a laxative and/or bloating effect in some sensitive people.

Our sucrose-free fudge is an tasty alternative to regular fudge. The fudge is sweetened with fructose, offering a low glycemic index (GI) and lower insulin production for diabetics. Fructose is also 73% sweeter than sucrose (table sugar) so less is necessary for recipes.
